Cape May Traditional Jazz Society

To – CMTJS Members                                                   8/20/09

Thanks for all your support so far this year!

Our Sunday afternoon gigs at the VFW in January through August in 2009 have been successful. Each of the great Dixieland bands that have performed so far this year have provided excellent jazz and everyone enjoyed the fun times.

Thanks to your strong support CMTJS is achieving our goal of keeping this great music alive and affordably available on a regular basis in south Jersey.

As you know, the VFW is not available for our Sunday afternoon gigs in the fall due to their previous commitments. We have just worked out an arrangement with the VFW to hold our monthly fall gigs on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 pm with the same usual setup plus the VFW will also provide a good inexpensive $5 buffet for those who want to eat.

Our fall schedule will be:         Thurs 9/24         Thurs 10/22          Thurs 12/10

We hope you will be able to attend these 3 Thursday early evening gigs and also bring your friends to enjoy great Dixieland fun evenings. We will continue to send email flyers with complete details for each event as usual.

In January 2010 we will go back to our Sunday 2 to 4 pm afternoon gigs. The 2010 planned schedule is 1/31, 2/14, 3/14, 4/11, 5/16, 6/13, 7/11, 8/8.

I ask that you continue to encourage your friends and neighbors to become CMTJS members to help support our events and enjoy the fun. Thanks again for your continued support; we couldn’t do it without you.

Best regards,

To – Members and Friends                                                                   Nov. 10, 2008

Thank you very much for your support and attendance in 2008. Your Board of Officers appreciates all you have done to help make this our first 10 months a success. Here is a brief recap of what was accomplished in our first year and what is planned for 2009.

Early this year we started Cape May Traditional Jazz Society with the stated purpose to develop, educate, promote and enjoy Traditional Jazz (Dixieland, Blues, Ragtime & New Orleans Style) in south Jersey. Our goal is to keep this unique American Art form of great music alive and affordably available in this area on a regular basis.

We established our web site www.capemaytraditionaljazzsociety.com with a listing of pertinent information, details of our events and links to other interesting Jazz sites. Our web site currently gets approximately 1,000 hits per month and is growing.

Our paid membership ($10 annual dues) is now over 50 and we hope to reach our first year goal of at least 100 members soon.

To date we have held 7 enjoyable gigs, 4 at the VFW in Cape May, 2 at the Pilot House in Cape May and 1 at the Harbor Pub in Stone Harbor, each with great bands.

We have established partnerships with Lower Township and Middle Township High Schools and will donate proceeds to help support their music/band programs for the benefit of local youth musicians.

Special thanks to all our radio station friends at 101.5 FM and 1230 AM for their help.

 Our Goals for 2009:

.  Hold 12 gigs with great Traditional Jazz bands; publish the schedule 6 mos. in advance.

.  Build our membership to be at least 150 paid members in year two.

.  Secure 1 or 2 major sponsors to help funding so that we can keep admission fees low.

We ask for your support and help in making 2009 successful by:

.  Give us your ideas of what you would like to see us do/change/add/etc.

.  Renew your membership for 2009. (everyone joining after 10/1/08 is paid for 2009)    Mail your check to CMTJS  PO Box 113  Stone Harbor, NJ 08247.

.  Ask your friends to become members and join in the fun.

.  Come to all our events and enjoy great Traditional Jazz and meet/make friends.

.  Provide us the names of potential sponsors and how to best contact them.

.  Save the date Sunday 1/25/09 at 2 pm   a super gig at VFW in Cape May!

I thank you in advance for your continued support in the exciting future ahead for CMTJS. I wish you and your families a happy holiday season and healthy New Year.
